RA Image Library

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects more than 21 million adults1 and particularly affects the small joints of the hands and feet. The joints become inflamed, swollen and tender, and as a consequence are stiff and have impaired functionality. The disease process starts with inflammation at the junction between the bone and the synovium and is followed by destruction of cartilage and then the bone itself.

This image resource provides general representative images of RA, such as swelling and deformation of the joints. X-ray radiographs are included that clearly show the detrimental effects of the disease on the bones in the joint regions, as well as images that illustrate the disease mechanism. Images that capture the potential benefits of effective treatment for patients are also included.
